'Jaws': Nat Geo to release documentary on Steven Spielberg's iconic thriller

National Geographic, in collaboration with Amblin Entertainment, has announced plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg's Oscar-winning iconic thriller 'Jaws' with a comprehensive documentary titled 'Jaws @ 50' (working title). According to Deadline, the documentary will delve into the tumultuous production history of the film and the literary origins of Peter Benchley's bestselling novel that inspired it. Directed by Laurent Bouzereau, known for his insightful nonfiction projects on Hollywood figures like Faye Dunaway and Natalie Wood, 'Jaws @ 50' is scheduled for release in the summer of 2025. It will be available on National Geographic channels and streaming platforms Disney+ and Hulu, promising an in-depth exploration of how 'Jaws' shaped both cinema and popular literature, Deadline confirmed. The documentary will feature exclusive footage and archival materials from the personal collections of Peter Benchley and Steven Spielberg. It aims to provide viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges Spielberg faced as a young director grappling with technical mishaps and adverse weather conditions during the filming process. According to the announcement, Wendy Benchley, ocean conservationist and wife of Peter Benchley, will collaborate closely on the project. The documentary not only aims to celebrate the cultural impact of 'Jaws' but also to foster a deeper understanding of sharks and ocean conservation, topics close to the heart of the Benchley family. Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey of Amblin Entertainment expressed their enthusiasm for the documentary, highlighting its dual focus on art and science. "Jaws the novel by Peter Benchley and the film by Steven Spielberg, defined both popular literature and cinema," they remarked adding, "The idea of diving into the past, present and future legacy of Jaws, combined with an informed and inspiring discussion about sharks and the ocean in one documentary, is a unique opportunity to explore the perfect union between art and science." Spielberg himself reflected on the arduous journey of creating 'Jaws' in an excerpt from Bouzereau's book 'Spielberg: The First Ten Years', published by Vanity Fair, according to Deadline. "Being on 'Jaws' became a living nightmare," Spielberg shared adding "I knew the film I wanted to make. I just couldn't get the movie I had in mind on film as quickly as I wanted." The documentary will also touch upon the broader cultural impact of 'Jaws', which not only spawned sequels but also influenced generations of filmmakers and ignited public fascination with sharks. Produced by Laura A. Bowling alongside Benchley and executive produced by Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey, Laurent Bouzereau, Markus Keith, and Ted Duvall of National Geographic, 'Jaws @ 50' promises to be a compelling retrospective celebrating the enduring legacy of one of cinema's most iconic thrillers. No energy for challenging roles, admits Jeremy Renner

Actor Jeremy Renner, who was seriously injured in an accident in January 2023, says the incident has changed the face of his career. Renner, who is best known for playing Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), shared on a podcast, “I just don’t have the energy for it [challenging characters]. I don’t have the fuel. I [only] have so much fuel to put into this reality and this body. I can’t just go play make-believe right now. Because it takes a lot of time to get right here every day just so I can have a positive thought, progress, and always keep growing.” After the incident, Renner took some time off before returning to work. He resumed acting to shoot the third season of Mayor of Kingstown, the crime thriller TV series. He said it was the ideal way to mark his return to work. Renner said, “I still struggle with it sometimes. I don’t take it super seriously. I’m in a character that I can do well, and I know the show well. So, it was easy for me to slide back into it. But if it was a challenging role, I couldn’t have taken it. Not challenging because the show is challenging, but it is if I had to go play Dahmer [2002] or something so fSar from me.” The actor had previously stated that the public sees him in a different light following his accident. Hollywood star Sean Penn has spoken about how his perspective on romance changed and hopes he doesn’t have his heart broken again. “I’m just free. In 1996, the actor married Robin Wright, with whom he shares a daughter and a son. The couple opted for separation and got divorced in 2010. Penn then tied the knot with Australian actor Leila George in 2020, their divorce process was finalised in April 2022.  While reflecting on his love life, he recalled instances where “the first thing I see in the morning are [their] eyes wondering what I’m going to do to make them happy that day. Rarely reciprocated. On one of my marriages, the background noise of life was a [Real] Housewives of Beverly Hills or Love Island. Not even being in the room—I’m not saying this to be cute—I was dying. I felt my heart and brain shrinking. It was an assault,”he said. Penn has said that the “friends in the female department, [who are] beautiful, wonderful people, wonderful with their partners or wonderful on their own, [have shown him that] relationships don’t have to be dramatic or draining.” This story has been sourced from a third party syndicated feed, agencies. Pride Month 2024: Meryl Streep's daughter Louisa Jacobson comes out as lesbian

Hollywood icon Meryl Streep’s youngest child, daughter Louisa Jacobson came out as a lesbian days after the superstar’s birthday. It was the most thoughtful way to celebrate Pride Month and her mother’s special day all at once. Louisa also introduced her girlfriend Anna Blundell in a series of pictures on Instagram. “Blessed to be entering the Joyful New Era bb,” wrote Louisa in the caption.  Louisa made her acting debut in the TV movie 'Gone Hollywood' in 2019 but found fame in the period drama 'The Gilded Age'. For those unversed, Meryl and her husband of 45 years, Don Gummer have been separated for more than six years. They were last seen together at the 2018 Oscars. The couple shares four children: singer-songwriter Henry Wolfe, 43, and actresses Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 30, whom they raised at their Connecticut compound in the quiet, historic town of Salisbury. They also have five grandchildren. Their son, Henry, has two children with his wife, Tamryn Storm Hawker. Mamie has two children with her husband Mehar Sethi. Meanwhile, Grace recently gave birth to her first child with her husband, record producer Mark Ronson.  Streep and Gummer were first introduced by her brother, Harry, in 1978. At the time, the actress had been mourning the loss of her late boyfriend and ‘Deer Hunter’ co-star John Cazale, who had passed away from lung cancer that year. Streep and Gummer wed that same year and since kept their relationship out of the public eye. Last month, Streep was honoured with the prestigious Honorary Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.  Meanwhile, on the work front, Meryl Streep is all set to return for the fourth season of 'Only Murders in the Building'. She will reprise the recurring role of Loretta Durkin, whom she started playing in Season 3 of the series. The character starred in Oliver's (Martin Short) Broadway show in the most recent season, with the two becoming romantically involved.  Created by Steve Martin and John Hoffman, 'Only Murders in the Building' follows Charles Haden-Savage (Martin), Oliver Putnam (Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), three neighbors in a New York City apartment called the Arconia, who come together to record a true crime podcast about the murders of their fellow residents, for which they are continually framed.
